Teacher Spotlight- Evie Mathis, owner of Every Little Move

Movement has always been part of my life – I grew up dancing, and my mum has taught Pilates for over 30 years, so I spent a lot of time in her classes (I even did my Year 10 work experience with her, which feels very full-circle now). After university I explored a few different paths, but nothing felt quite right until I started training with JPilates in 2024. I completed my L3 Matwork and then went on to complete the Full Comprehensive programme, across Reformer, Tower/Cadillac, Wunda Chair and Barrels – genuinely the best decision I’ve made.

I launched my own business, Every Little Move, inspired by the idea that every move counts -whether it’s the first step in someone’s journey or the tiny technical details that make Pilates so special. I taught group mat classes and private sessions across all equipment, which I loved, but I recently wanted new experiences, so I moved to Dubai. I’m now teaching dynamic group classes here, always staying rooted in the key principles and fundamentals of Pilates.

How would you describe your style of teaching?

I’m definitely a form first teacher! I love the small tweaks, the tiny shifts in alignment or control that completely change how a movement feels – that’s the magic of Pilates for me. I adapt depending on the studio and clients, and I also love teaching to music when it suits the class, but I always bring it back to clean technique. I’m big on visuals and hands-on cueing to help people really feel what’s happening in their bodies.

What is your client base like?

A complete mix, which I absolutely love – Pilates really is for everybody. In the UK I taught a lot of small private sessions across the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Ladder Barrel, and I’d love to bring more of that into my work in Dubai. At the moment I’m mainly teaching group classes: mat, Reformer and Tower, with clients ranging in both age and level.

What is your most favourite move and why?

100% The Hundred – always! It never fails. It wakes up the body, gets the blood pumping, and works beautifully on every piece of equipment. It’s also so adaptable, which means everyone can access the intention of the movement, no matter their level or any injuries.

 What is your least favourite?

I will have to say the shoulder bridge series – scissors/bicycle! I enjoy teaching it, but doing it myself…not so much haha. It’s definitely something I’m working on improving in my own practice!

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a Pilates instructor?

Seeing people change – both physically and emotionally. Of course it’s amazing when clients feel stronger or nail a new move, but it’s the day‑to‑day shifts I love most. Someone might walk in having an off day, and by the end of the session they’re uplifted, smiling, or telling me how much they needed that class. Those moments genuinely stay with me.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I’m currently completing my Pre and Post Natal training with JPilates, which I’m really excited about. In five years, I hope to be even more confident in my teaching, still learning (always!), and ideally incorporating more work across all of the equipment again, because I love that style and the full system. Maybe even stepping into some teacher training one day – the intricacies of Pilates really fascinate me.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new instructor what would it be?

Be true to yourself. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed trying to “find your style”, but it develops naturally when you teach from who you are. Your authenticity is what your clients connect with – I’m still learning this myself!
