With the on-going success of our Conventions, we are delighted to be holding our summer Convention on 4th & 5th July 2026!
The programme promises to ensure each session provides new challenges, creative movement ideas and up to date research guaranteed to inspire and develop your knowledge and skills as a Pilates teacher in both group classes and 1-2-1 contexts.
Each session will be brimming with inspirational variations and innovative adaptations designed to enrich and enhance your Pilates teaching. You will leave energised and motivated with new concepts and strategies to use with your clients. Join us for drinks after and have the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with other teachers.
As always, recordings of the sessions will be available for you to refer back to after the event.
The Programme
Archival Joe- Let’s take a journey back in time!
First stop- 1932. Joe archived his Physical Culture Standing Routine in two films, one of himself and another teaching a group of seven men & one woman, both filmed outdoors. These exercises are so empowering, precise and fun!
Next stop- 1940s. In a promo film, Joe is behind the camera teaching the Mat repertoire to Ted Shawn and another male dancer. We can see several differences from the Mat exercises in Return to Life, small controlled suspended pauses, chest out and lifted, arms much further back, all bring an incredible amount of strength and power rather than a reliance on flexibility which is seen so much today.
Wind your neck in!
Neck tension, movement restriction and pain are so common with many of our clients. This session will focus on further understanding the anatomy of the cervical spine and provide strategies to help create coordinated control, freedom of movement and ease of restriction.
In between with the Elders
From Eve Gentry to Kathy Grant, Ron Fletcher to Bruce King, the first generation teachers have given us so many fantastic variations and complimentary exercises which can provide release, prep technique and deeply enhance the traditional Mat repertoire. This session will be a fabulous exploration of Mat where the stars of the show will be the bits in between brought to you by the Elders.
Breathe well- but how?
It is universally recognised that the most important element of Contrology is Breath,
“..squeeze out the lungs as you would wring a wet towel dry…..soon the entire body is charged with fresh oxygen from the toes to the fingertips just as a head of steam in a boiler rushes to every radiator in the house”
We teach our clients to always breathe well, deeply and fully, but can we go further? This session delves into the anatomy of the diaphragm and explores how to fully mobilise and strengthen this crucial muscle to really unlock the potential of your breath.
It’s the little things
I always want to bring a piece of small equipment joy to the convention and this year its; the turn of the ankle/wrist weights. This session will use the weights to provide unilateral challenge and feedback giving you new inspiration for your classes.
“The JPilates convention is a mix of knowledge bombs, Pilates practice and pure fun! Jo covers so much in one day, it was incredible!”
