How Much Should I Charge Survey 2024- The Results!

The results from our “How Much Should I Charge?” survey are in!

The purpose of the survey was to gather information on price & price structures, regional differences and market area differences, in the hope of helping teachers when setting their prices or changing prices which can sometimes be tricky and a cause of anxiety!

The Results!

Observations

  • 2/3 of the results are from the south of England, with no results form Wales and limited responses from Ireland & Scotland. To remove any bias, we have presented the information overall & by region.
  • A few responses did not indicate a region (11%).
  • More than half the respondents teach in large towns or cities, online showed the lowest number at 9%.

Observations

  • 94% teach Mat with more than half teaching Mat & Reformer
  • The responses showed 30% teaching Studio Equipment, Cadillac, Tower, Chair etc. This fairly high number may be due to some confusion and some respondents counted using small props, mini balls, circles, bands etc as Studio Equipment.
  • Block bookings are the most popular payment type.
  • Membership is the least popular and the majority of memberships (90%) also offer PAYG or block
  • booking options too.

Observations

  • Overall & in most regions the average block class rate was £10-£11. 43% of responses say they only offer block payments no PAYG
  • Of those who offer both block & PAYG, 26% offer at the same price, 33% discount £2 per class for block payments & 22% discount £1 per class.
  • Mat block bookings prices were consistent across market areas too, again averaging at £10.

Observations

  • The average cost per Mat class is £12 across regions & market areas.

Observations

  • This potentially is not very representative as we only had a small response of teachers offering online classes.
  • Also more detail needs to be given as to the length of the classes, if they are online only or part of an in person class.

Observations

  • Again due to the small response & more details needed, for example, number of classes included in the membership, this may not be representative.

Observations

  • Reformer & apparatus shows the greatest variations in pricing
  • Interestingly, block booking discounts were larger than Mat, ranging up to £5 and as high as £8.

Observations

  • Although the average rates are similar, there is a large difference between the minimum and maximum prices.
  • Surprisingly, there is only a £2 difference between teachers who offer Mat and those who offer Studio Equipment.
  • 30% of those teaching 121s, also teach duets. 86% of those who teach duets price them more than 121s, on average £11 more.

Observations

  • The pricing does not reflect profit sharing or percentage split agreements.

I really hope you have found the results helpful!

A huge heart-felt thanks goes to Lisa at Bee Charis, Not only is she an incredible Pilates teacher but she is a statistics guru! Lisa has done all the hard work of analysing the results, collating all the data & creating the slides.
